Waiting to see if I passed the preselection

When the preselection procedure is over you will receive an e-mail from the Traineeship Office with the list of all the 'registering numbers' that passed the preselection. Bear in mind that when you apply, you receive automatically a registering number, which represents you in the communication flow with the Traineeship Office.

In case you passed the preselection (which is actually a filtering of the CVs), you enter automatically on a list with three persons for one place, meaning that you have 33% chances to be selected.
The key stands in the hands of the heads of units from the chosen Directorates or Services or from the cabinet responsible, in case you applied for cabinets.
You just have to be contacted by them in case your application raised their interest.
They can get in touch with you either by mail or calling.
If you were contacted by them it doesn't mean that you have been selected!

The final answer you'll get it again by mail!

Hey All! I am a non-EU national and have applied for the traineeship (starting March 2010). Does anyone know if non-EU nationals even stand a chance of getting through?

LukaLaw said...

In short yes. I honestly cant remember where I found it – but there is an internal audit report for the Traineeship selection process with breakdown of the applicants. For the September term out of about 6000 applicants over 400 were Non-Eu out of those about 45 got in (and about 550 from the euro zone). That means the statistically speaking there really is no inherit disadvantage for getting in. However, relying on pure statistics would be misleading, it would be safe to assume that the non Europeans are on whole a more Impressive group of applicants. In any case best of luck to both of us.

@Lukalaw - Thanks so much for the clarification! Keeping my fingers crossed for the blue book list now.

Hello everyone, could you please post some info here when you receive the notification for the March 2010 Traineeship pre-selection? It's supposed to be in the end of this month but who knows exactly when this will happen..Thank you so much in advance!! :)

I took a quick look in the forum the first people going Yeeei! Were doing so on the 27th of Nov – so a day or two left ( I am afraid I am going to wear out the refresh button my inbox icon until then), if anyone starts getting answers would be nice if you could post them. Even if didn’t get in would be happy to pull that mental splinter out of my head.

Hi!! I got an interview call for the European Parliament traineeship last week but havent heard from them since then. Any idea when does the final result come out? How many candidates are interviewed for each position?

Anonymous said...

Hi All! I just spoke to someone from the Traineeship office and they are going to start sending the acceptance letters today. All the best!

Hi All! I just spoke to someone from the traineeship office and they are going to start sending the pre-selection mails today. The list will be posted online sometime this week. All the best!!!!

30th November and according to Traineeships office home page eligibility is still 'ongoing'???

Now, according to Traineeship home page, eligibility checks should be over end of October, at the latest. And pre-selection should be done somewhere at the end of Novemeber.

Is it just me, or something doesnt smells right here?

Good luck to all of you!

The info on the Traineeships' Office homepage has not been updated for a long time, I suppose they will update it when they publish the list of the pre-selected candidates. Good luck to all people waiting...

Anonymous said...

I seems that no one has received a message still, we have the whole day to wait ;))) Good luck!

Anonymous said...

Lucalaw, did you receive the message? What is going on and how long do we have to wait? I hope we all get info today :)

marcin24 said...

Hmm, good point, the website hasn't been updated for some time, worrying…
Has anyone received any msg, if so would be great to hear from you guys!

Looking forward to March 2010 preselection announcements.

Good luck to everyone!

Hey all,

As from I know from the previous application periods I have read in this blog, the e-mails are sent the last day (which is today) and around 5 p.m. to the evening depending on the number series (applicant number).
So don't panic they probably arrange huge number of files at the moment.

good luck to everyone!

Marcin24, it's either no one has got anything still or no one wants to share the information, I'm still wondering which one is it and I surely hope it's the first option !! :)))

marcin24 said...

Hi Anonymous ;-)

There is no reason why ppl would hide this info, hope I am right lol
Looks like we will have to wait, a bit frustrating really, but there is not much we can do :p
Hope our waiting will pay off eventually!!

Good Luck!

Anonymous said...

Hey! I spoke to someone at the traineeship office too and they told me that they will try their best to send out all mails today and latest by this week. So even if no one hears anything today, there is still hope :)

Anonymous said...

I don't want to kill the hope but I know from experience that the pre-selected candidates DO get their announcement e-mail on one day. Last time it was like that - all pre-selected were informed on 15th of May and whoever got a message after, it was a rejection e-mail (I got a rejection e-mail on the 17th of May).. So I truly don't know what to think right now :)

Houston said...

Ugh, it bothers me when people can't keep deadlines. What time is it in Bruxelles now? It's after 4. Either they send it out right before they leave for the day, or our constant worrying will have to continue for another day or two. Let's hope we receive news in the next hour. Best of luck.

Anonymous said...

Hey!!They have started sending out pre-selection mails.... Just got one!

Houston said...

Still no news from anybody? I guess no news is better than bad news.

I made it!!!

Just a short note to let everybody know that 15 min ago I received a confirmation that I was preselected. Best of luck to the others!

marcin24 said...

Hi everyone,

I haven't been pre-selected, found out an hour ago, to be frank I’m surprised, thought pre-selection should pose no bigger problem, looks I was mistaken lol

For those who are successful-congratulations!!!
For those who are not- don’t worry, everything is for the reason, will do next time and take over the EC.

Take care guys!

In case of any question, drop me a line: marcin.drygierczyk@gmail.com

got an answer - and not a minute to late - its good news.

I'm in (the bluebook)!! Wondering if there are any other Americans who applied and who have been preselected.

Loli said...

OK is it me or does it take a while for anything to be published? OK.. take two..

I'm in (the bluebook)!! Just curious, are there any other Americans out there that applied and have been preselected? I just wonder how many Americans (or any other non-European citizens) applied??

Houston said...

Loli,
I was wondering the same thing. I'm an american, and I was preselected. I applied for the Directorates of External Affairs, Regional Affairs, and Economic/Financial. Any other americans? Best of luck to everybody.

Loli said...

@Houston.. are you on facebook and part of the facebook group 'EU Commission Stage 2010 (March-July)'? We should chat more (there, if possible), because I just looked at the visa requirements.. and to get everything prepared to apply for the visa should take some time. I'm starting now, in case it does happen *crossing fingers*. Any other Americans out there?

Unknown said...

Hi Loli, I m Malaysian and I have been accepted in blue book as well.Thats a good news.
Bad news is, there are some timing issue...Did anyone know if the 1-2 month traineeship exists?

Houston said...

Loli,
I joined the group and made a post. Look me up. The visa process is never any fun.

guys, now the biggest dilemma ever is waiting for us...to lobby or not to lobby???

gaia said...

Hi everybody, I'm gaia. I got my e-mail saying I was preselected on the 30th at 17.03, CET. I'm in the 420 series.
Now I wonder...when do I start lobbying? Any clue about when we might receive phone calls? I'll be abroad (outside Europe) in the last three weeks of December and I'm afriad they might not able to reach me if they call, due to time difference and poor network coverage..

Loli (from US) said...

@Eugene.. I think that they sometimes have 3 month traineeships, but I think they may be at random, i.e. I think that you find out if they tell you that you got one of the shorter ones. Otherwise, I am not sure if you can elect to go for a shorter period of time. Perhaps you can either wait and see if you are selected or see about emailing the EC Traineeship Office and asking them that question. Best of luck!

Unknown said...

yeah, that is what I am concerning about now;/ I started new studies and in that period I will be still studying therefore I am a bit disoriented what to do because I was preselected...any advices? cheers and I wish u luck all!

gaia said...

Hi, I received a call from one unit of my first choice DG last Thursday (Dec 3rd) asking me if I was still interested. The lady (an assistant) also asked me to send a motivation letter to her e-mail address.
So what should I do next? Sit and wait? Keep calling them?
I'm leaving for a long holiday to South America next week and I don't know if I should insist now, before leaving.
Any of you has an idea about when the internal selection will be completed? Before the end of the year maybe..
ciao gaia

gaia said...

For Dawid: check the traineeship office website, they say a deferred start is possible until May (on the 1st or 16th of each month). Anticipated ending is also possible, but if the traineeship duration is less than three months, you won't get paid or have to return them the grant received.

Thank you so much for the information on this blog, it has helped me alot! A man from the commission called me last week, and the day after he called back to say that I was elected as a trainee for the march 2010 period, so happy! So now I have to look at your ideas of where to live in Brussels=)

Anonymous said...

I was selected as a trainee for DG Competition, woho! I did no lobbying whatsoever, neither before preselection or the days after preselection. They called me twice: once to have a interview and then again to tell me they picked me.

Unknown said...

to Gaia:

Thank you for your reply, so if any matter you think that it may be possible to start traineeship in May and to finish it in July or even later! Wow like that would be fabulous! Thank you. If it is like that I am not completely lost with my traineeship :)cheers!

Anonymous said...

Hey! has anyone heard from the European Parliament?

Anonymous said...

Hi to all of you there. I'm now doing a stage at the Commission but was exactly in the same boat as you guys a few months ago!
Just want to say that there is perhaps no need to lobby if your application profile is very specific but I also know people who lobbied and wrote to heads of unit. Just make a wise decision either way. Congrats to those who are in. You'll enjoy it!

PS: I'm non-European and as per the current batch, there are 50 trainees from outside Europe.

Hello,

Any of you applied for the paid translation traineeship at the EU Commission? Have you been selected? I thought we were told before mid January but I am still waiting.

Thanks in advanced!!

hi, i have been preselected for oct 2010.
can anyone who eventually got accepted in the past tell me what the best strategy is, once you're at this point.
shall i call, email, do nothing? or send a little present..kidding..

thank you very much for your advice, much appreciated!!!

Unknown said...

I've also been preselcted and also have not yet been contacted for an e-mail/telephone interview for October 2010 and I don't know anyone who has yet. I think they have only just gained access to our applications though. And yes, if any past trainees have any tips regarding action to take/not to take at this stage, that would be great!

Hey! I've got the question for all people who were selected. How difficult is it to get the traineeshhip? What were the strongest points in your cv's that could have contributed to your success? what was your major, how good were your grades at uni, how many languages do you speak, have you spent some part of your studies abroad? anything that could help me to estimate my chances... I'm gonna apply next year

P Smith said...

Hey everyone! I'm from the US and I am just wondering if any of you past trainees met anyone from America...I would love to get in touch with them to discuss their experiences.

I think I have the dumbest question ever, but I have been preselected and the thing is that I've applied to so many different things that I don't actually remmenber which 3 DGs I chose on my application. Is there someone who knows how to check on that? I just remmember my first choice. Thankyou all.
